Hertfordshire sits in the middle of the home counties, so a good deal of my work spills over the border one way or another. The counties either side of me are the ones I know best, and the ones further out are worth a conversation.

The ground you’re working with

No two of these counties garden alike. The soil and the setting shift as you cross each border, and the planting that thrives shifts with them. That variety is half the pleasure of working across them: every garden gets a plant list picked for its own patch, not a formula carried over from the last one.

The work

Village and country gardens, larger rural plots, and outdoor space for pubs and hospitality venues.

Nature doesn’t need to be added to a garden. It’s already there.
